Each chapter of life is different and unique in its own way. It’s good advice to live vibrantly throughout all of them; it makes for an exciting life. To live vibrantly is to find joy in life, be curious, continue learning, engage with others and look forward to the days to come. Just because the page has turned does not mean the vibrancy fades; the staff and programming at The Willows of Easley make it easy for residents to continue to shine.
Moving to a senior living community is a significant change in chapters. People often worry about ‘giving up’ so much when, in reality, they are gaining a lot. “Our residents are giving away the uncomfortable parts of being an adult, like lawn care and keeping up with bills,” said Laura Gill Spearman, CRCFA, CDP, executive director. “Now is the time you can let all those other worries go, and you can focus on the fun things in life – to your comfort level.”
The Willows of Easley is dedicated to helping residents live vibrantly through the enriching Vibrant Living Program. It focuses on four guiding pillars: purpose, curiosity, creativity and fun.
Purpose
These programs provide a sense of motivation for our residents. Studies show that having a sense of purpose and motivation impacts health and longevity.
Curiosity
These opportunities feed our residents’ desire to continue learning about various subjects. Life is more interesting as we know more about ourselves and the world around us, and keeps the brain more engaged.
Creativity
Engaging the mind in creative ways maintains cognitive function and can enhance memory and problem-solving skills.
Fun
This chapter of life is meant to be fun. These programs are lighthearted and designed to encourage smiles, laughter and engagement.
Our staff diligently plans a wide variety of options for residents to choose from based on those high standards, and regularly asks for their feedback and ideas. Events ranging from happy hours and bingo at The Willows of Easley to lunch outings in Hendersonville are just a few examples of the many opportunities to engage. Throughout the calendar of events, there are chances to improve a person’s mind, body and spirit. Residents still have the power of autonomy to choose what they would and would not like to be involved in.
“The more social a person is, the longer they live, barring any medical issues,” explained Spearman. “We’re helping people live longer. In addition to the activities and social engagement, we meet regularly as a team to cover how each resident is doing and address any struggles residents may have.”
Staff also work to encourage friendships; people are more likely to get out, attend events and look forward to activities when they have a friend or group and a sense of belonging.
Some perceive the move to a senior living community as the ‘last chapter’ when, in fact, it is a new beginning. With so many opportunities to engage in activities, spend time with friends new and old, and easily take steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle, the vibrancy of this new beginning can shine just as brightly.
The staff at The Willows of Easley prioritize their residents’ comfort, health and safety.
“We moved Mom in today, and it was like coming back home. The staff welcomed us with open arms, and when I came home, I had a feeling of peace knowing she is in great hands,” said Donna N. in a testimonial. “Bottom line is the staff actually cares…rare trait these days. (They) will not disappoint if you’re looking for a home instead of just a facility.”
The Willows of Easley stays true to its motto in every aspect: It’s not like home; it is home. And this home is a place to live vibrantly.
