Everyday Hormone Health

Hormones affect our everyday life; our everyday life affects our hormones.

“Hormones play an important role in regulating our cognitive function as well as our body’s physical abilities,” said Dr. Kenneth Orbeck, anti-aging and regenerative medicine physician at Regenerative Medical Institute.

Communication between cells is vital for neuroendocrine connection, and hormones have a direct effect on cell signaling at the DNA level. As examples, estrogen plays a critical role in memory and cognition and testosterone has an important function for energy and vitality. There is evidence suggesting estrogen can alter the neural chemistry of the brain related to memory, learning and mood, and testosterone deficiency is a risk factor for cognitive decline.

“All these hormones work in synergy and must be balanced like a beautiful orchestra playing a symphony,” said Dr. Orbeck, pointing out that people with a hormone imbalance have symptoms including loss of energy, depressed mood, issues with intimate wellness and a loss of muscle mass.

“The good news is that hormonal health can be maintained and optimized throughout your lifetime,” said Dr. Orbeck, who specializes in helping his patients find relief from hormonal imbalances. Hormonal responses are impacted by lifestyle choices and experiences. A focus on creating relief and maintaining hormonal balances in metabolic health creates a platform for optimal wellness.

To fuel your metabolism, maintaining a proper diet is vitally important. By limiting food additives such as preservatives, dyes and artificial colors and flavors, you can limit neuro-inflammation which, if uncontrolled or prolonged, can result in cellular damage and subsequent cognitive and physical decline. Additionally, avoiding processed foods and trans fatty acids can reduce oxidative stress that is responsible for chronic and degenerative diseases. Choosing foods high in high nutritional value and good fatty acids, like omega-3, will help mentally, physically and emotionally.

Limiting chemicals put into our bodies and being aware of the ones in our environment enables us to reduce our toxic burden and “enhance the regenerative pathways that keep us more youthful.”

“Getting adequate sleep and exercising proper sleep hygiene is also very important, as most of our regenerative pathways occur during the sleep process,” Dr. Orbeck added.

In addition to the actions we can take in our daily lives, there are therapies to enhance and support our bodies’ hormones. At the Regenerative Medical Institute, Dr. Orbeck conducts a hormonal and metabolic analysis to assess hormonal health and creates customized recommendations.

“We look at all hormones as well as the hormonal metabolites to assess exactly which hormones would benefit you and your overall health,” he explained.

There are various safe and effective ways to administer hormones, based on the comfort and needs of each individual patient. RMI can replace hormones identical to those you once had using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
