It’s no secret that South Carolinians have access to some of the best health care facilities, doctors and other medical professionals in the country.
The Palmetto State’s hospitals are home to innovative research studies and state-of-the-art technology. And the doctors, surgeons and staff have some of the most impressive education and experience around – not to mention that in one of the friendliest places on Earth, you can expect that bedside manner to be exceptional, with providers and staff who genuinely care for their patients and treat them like they would want their own families to be treated.
While South Carolina isn’t exactly known for the health of its residents – a recent report by the United Health Foundation ranked the Palmetto State as the 34th healthiest in the United States – some parts of South Carolina fare much better, with Beaufort, Charleston and Greenville counties topping the list of the healthiest counties in South Carolina, according to Niche.com.
How do these organizations choose which hospitals to recognize and why does it matter? Check out how two local hospitals have earned “excellent” approval.
Spartanburg Medical Center
While technology is getting better all the time, there are times when an organ transplant is the only viable option.
Spartanburg Medical Center has been recognized in recent years for its organ donation programs. In 2016, the hospital received the Sharing Hope SC Excellence in Donation Community Outreach Award and was the first hospital in South Carolina to earn the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Workplace Partnership for Life Excellence in Donation Gold level. In 2016, the hospital was the first facility in the state to receive the LifePoint Excellence in Donation Community Outreach Award. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, SMC achieved achieved Platinum Level for Workplace for Life Excellence in Donation, reaching that campaign’s highest level for organ donation awareness and education. That means the hospital and staff have gone above and beyond to educate their patients about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation.
Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital
In the Upstate, stroke sufferers are in good hands at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, the only comprehensive stroke center in the Upstate.
